WHOIS Lookup
See who a domain is registered with, when it was registered, when it expires, its locks, and its name servers. Works for every domain ending, using the official RDAP registry data with WHOIS as a backup.
About the WHOIS Lookup
WHOIS is the public record for domain names. It shows the registrar, the key dates, the name servers, and, where not hidden for privacy, the owner’s details.
How to use it
- 1 Enter a domain name, or paste a web address.
- 2 Run the lookup.
- 3 Check the registrar, dates, locks, and name servers.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the owner details hidden?
Since GDPR (2018), most registrars hide personal contact details by default or replace them with a privacy service.
How can I tell when a domain expires?
The WHOIS record shows the expiry date. Domains usually have a grace period of around 30 to 45 days after that.
What does clientTransferProhibited mean?
It is a lock that stops the domain being moved to another registrar without the owner’s permission. It is normal and protective.
What is RDAP?
The Registration Data Access Protocol, the structured JSON successor to WHOIS. ICANN made it the official source for generic domains in 2025; this tool uses it first and falls back to WHOIS for registries without it.
