About the Math Practice for Kids

Math practice gives children one sum at a time and checks each answer straight away. A wrong answer shows the right one, and at the end the mistakes can be practised again until they stick. Three levels cover roughly ages 5 to 11, the times-table pages drill one table at a time, and every setting can be printed as a worksheet with an answer key.

How to use it

  1. 1 Pick the sums (add, subtract, multiply, divide), the level, and how many.
  2. 2 Press Start, type each answer, and press Enter or the ✓ key.
  3. 3 At the end, look at the stars and press “Practise mistakes again” for the sums that went wrong.
  4. 4 For paper practice, open “Printable worksheet”, then Print. Tick “Print answer key” to add the answers on page 2.

Frequently asked questions

Which level suits my child?

Easy has adding and taking away within 10 and times tables up to 5 × 5, which suits ages 5 to 7. Medium has two-digit adding and taking away and times tables up to 10 × 10, for ages 7 to 9. Hard has three-digit numbers, two-digit × one-digit sums and longer division, for ages 9 to 11. Start one level down so the first round goes well.

Are there negative numbers or remainders?

No. Subtraction always puts the bigger number first, and every division sum divides exactly, so all answers are whole numbers of zero or more.

What is the best way to learn the times tables?

Short, frequent practice works better than long sessions: a few minutes a day. Start with the 2, 5 and 10 tables, then 3, 4 and 11, and leave 6, 7, 8 and 12 for last. Practising the mistakes again straight away helps the hard facts stick.

Can I print a worksheet with the answers?

Yes. Open “Printable worksheet”, choose the settings, and press Print. Ticking “Print answer key” adds the answers on a separate page, so you can keep it back while your child works.

Can I give the same worksheet to a whole class?

Yes. Copy the link to the sheet: it opens with the same sums in the same order, so everyone gets the same worksheet. Press “New sums” to make a different one.

Is my child’s score saved?

The best score for each setting is kept in this browser only, so your child can try to beat it. No names or answers are sent to our server, and there is no sign-up.
