Frequently asked questions
How much tax do I pay on $65,000 in Ontario?
In 2026 a $65,000 salary in Ontario pays about $6,307 federal tax, $3,419 Ontario tax (including the $600 Ontario Health Premium), $3,659 CPP and $1,060 EI, leaving about $50,556 a year or $4,213 a month. The calculator shows the exact working for any salary and province.
What are the federal tax brackets for 2026?
14% on the first $58,523 of taxable income, 20.5% up to $117,045, 26% up to $181,440, 29% up to $258,482, and 33% above. The basic personal amount is $16,452 (reduced to $14,829 for incomes above $181,440), so most people pay no federal tax on roughly their first $16,000.
How much CPP and EI will I pay in 2026?
CPP is 5.95% of earnings between $3,500 and $74,600 (up to $4,230.45), plus CPP2 of 4% between $74,600 and $85,000 (up to $416). EI is 1.63% of earnings up to $68,900 (up to $1,123.07). In Québec you pay QPP at 6.30%, EI at 1.30%, and QPIP at 0.43% up to $103,000 instead.
Why is Québec different?
Québec runs its own income tax, so you pay Québec tax to Revenu Québec and a federal tax that is cut by the 16.5% Québec abatement. Québec also has QPP instead of CPP and its own parental insurance plan (QPIP), which lowers EI.
Which province has the lowest income tax?
For most salaries, Alberta, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories leave the most take-home pay, because of high basic personal amounts and low first rates. Québec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador take the most. Pick two provinces in the calculator to compare them for your salary.
Is this exactly what my paycheque will show?
It is close for a TD1 with only the basic personal amounts. It does not include RRSP or union dues, other credits on your TD1, the Ontario LIFT credit, the Canada Workers Benefit, or refundable credits you get when you file. Payroll spreads tax over the year, so bonuses and part-year work will differ.
