How to face the Qibla with your phone
- Press Use my exact location for the bearing from where you stand, then Start live compass.
- Hold the phone flat, away from metal, magnets and speakers. Wave it in a figure 8 once if the reading jumps.
- Turn until the Kaaba marker sits under the arrow at the top. The arrow turns green and the phone buzzes when you face the Qibla.
Phone compasses point to magnetic north, which can be a few degrees off true north. Within a few degrees is fine for prayer.
Check it with the sun, no compass needed
Twice a year the sun stands right above the Kaaba. At these moments, wherever it is daytime, every shadow points directly away from the Qibla, so face the sun.

About the Qibla Direction
Qibla Direction shows which way to face the Kaaba in Makkah from your district, city or exact location. It gives the bearing in degrees from true north and the distance to the Kaaba, and on a phone the live compass turns the dial so the Kaaba marker points the right way, buzzing when you face the Qibla. Without a compass you can use the bearing on a map, or the two days a year when the sun stands right over the Kaaba.
How to use it
- 1 Press Use my exact location, or pick your district or city.
- 2 On a phone, press Start live compass and hold it flat.
- 3 Turn until the Kaaba marker is under the arrow at the top; it turns green when you face the Qibla.
- 4 Without a compass, face the bearing shown in degrees from north, or the sun at the times listed.
